Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about LUMA, the tag, receipts, billing, and what we can and can't promise.
GEO and AEO, in dealer terms
What is GEO (generative engine optimization) for a car dealership?
GEO is making sure AI assistants recommend your store. When a shopper asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Grok or Google AI "best Nissan dealer near me" or "where should I buy a Rogue," the answer names a few dealers. GEO is the work of being one of them, and being the one it picks. It is measured as your share of AI recommendations — out of every 100 dealer recommendations AI gives in your market, how many are you.
What is AEO (answer engine optimization), and is it different from GEO?
Same goal, older name. AEO came from the days of featured snippets and voice assistants: get your business into the one answer instead of a list of links. GEO is the same idea for AI assistants that write the answer themselves. Lumon8 does both, because every engine we watch is an answer engine. Dealers do not need to know the difference; the question is the same either way: does AI name your store, and does it pick you?
Is this the same as SEO?
No. SEO gets your website ranked on a results page a shopper then clicks. GEO gets your store named inside an answer the shopper never clicks past. AI assistants build that answer from what they can read about you: review sites, listings, your Google profile, and the plain text of your website, which they read and cite. What they cannot read is the part a shopper asks about: the cars and the prices, which most dealer sites draw with scripts an AI crawler never runs. Good SEO helps. It is not enough on its own, and it does not tell you what AI is saying about you.
Why does it matter for a dealership right now?
Because the shopper who asks an AI assistant which dealer to trust gets one answer, and the stores not in it never know the sale existed. That shopper is not comparing ten websites; they are being handed two or three names. If a rival across town is in the answer and you are not, they get the visit. Lumon8 shows you that answer, in the engine's own words, before it costs you a sale.
What does Lumon8 actually do about it?
Three things, on repeat. Measure: we ask the six AI engines the questions your shoppers ask, at home and in your rival's town, and count who they name and who they pick. Correct: when an engine has a fact wrong or missing, we publish the correction on the page AI reads, with your approval or automatically. That page keeps itself current, daily, with nobody writing it: hours and departments, your whole lot with counts and floor prices, your specials, your real reviews quoted word for word, and whether you are worth the drive from the next town. Prove: we ask again the next day, and every Monday you get one page: your share against last week, the rival on the same line, what was fixed, the next town. One tag starts it, installed for you through your website provider; your team does no work after that.
What do I have to do?
Approve the tag. Lumon8 works directly with your website provider to have it installed: we open the support ticket, coordinate the installation, and copy you for approval. Then approve each correction with one click, or switch on auto-approve and never see them. That is the whole job. No content to write, no dashboard to babysit, no new website.
Does Lumon8 replace my agency or my website provider?
No. Lumon8 is the measurement and correction layer. Your agency keeps writing content and running ads; your website provider keeps hosting the site. We tell you, every week, whether any of that moved your share of AI recommendations, and we fix the facts AI has wrong in the meantime. Agencies also use Lumon8 under their own brand for their dealers.
How is Lumon8 different from a GEO agency, or my website vendor's AI tool?
An agency puts people on it: writers producing monthly content for your site, a team adding markup through your website vendor, a strategist on review calls, and a retainer that pays for all of it, with citations that, in their own words, take longer. Lumon8 puts no people on it. We ask the six engines the seven questions your shoppers ask, see which facts AI is missing or getting wrong, and publish the answer where AI reads the same day, from your verified data: hours, departments, your lot, your specials, your reviews, your town. Re-checked the next day; the Monday report shows what moved. No writer, no ticket, no call, no retainer; a published price per rooftop. We do not write long-form content or run ads; keep the agency that does, and we will show whether it moved your share. The side-by-side is on our comparison page.
Does AI know what I actually have in stock?
Usually not, because it cannot read your website's inventory. Most dealer sites draw the cars with scripts that AI crawlers never run, so an assistant asked who has a Bronco in stock near you has nothing to go on. Lumon8 crawls your vehicle listings every day and publishes what is on the lot in a format AI can read: counts and floor prices by model, new, used and certified, on the facts page we host and in your structured data. That is your whole lot, every model, not a sample. A number only goes out when it is fresh and reconciles with your site, and you can turn price publishing off. We publish it; we do not promise which engine will quote it. Measuring is separate from publishing: every plan asks AI where to buy your best-selling model, and Pro asks about your top three.
What does "1st of the 7 Ford stores AI names" mean, and who counts as a store?
Your share is ranked against the other stores of your brand that AI actually named in your market's answers, not against every dealer in the state. A store counts when it is a verified rooftop: a real dealership at a real address. A service center, a quick-lube lane, a finance arm or a name AI made up never counts, so the number of stores is the number of real rivals in the answers. Most stores are first at home; the share tells you by how much, and the rival's town tells you where you are not.
Does the rival's town ever change?
Yes, on its own. Lumon8 pins the town of the store taking the most of your recommendations so the report keeps one name week to week. When another store has clearly out-shared that rival on back-to-back checks, the away sweep moves to its town, the report says so in one line, and the old town's history stays on the record. One week's spike never moves it.
What are the town facts on my facts page?
For each town Lumon8 measures you in, your facts page answers the question a shopper there actually asks: is this store worth the drive. The answer is built only from verified fields: the miles from that town, your current specials, the departments and programs your own site names, the languages spoken, the phone. Nothing is written by a copywriter and nothing is invented; if a fact is not verified, the sentence is left out.
What does it cost, and why is the price on the website?
The rate card is on our pricing page: per rooftop, per month, less on annual, with a free audit first, no card and no contract. We publish it because we are asking you to trust a number every Monday, and a company that hides its own price is a strange one to trust with yours. Nobody else in this field publishes theirs. Agency and dealer-group pricing is quoted, because those rates belong to the agency, not to us.
How does the tag get installed?
Lumon8 does it. We open the support ticket with your website provider, coordinate the installation, and copy you for approval, so nobody at the store touches the site. If you would rather do it yourself, it is one line in your website or Google Tag Manager, about five minutes. Either way the light on your dashboard turns green the first time a real visitor loads a page with the tag, and the first scan runs the same day. The full instructions, forwardable to your website provider, are on the install page.
Getting started
What is Lumon8, and what is LUMA?
Lumon8 is Autonomous GEO for Automotive Retail: it monitors what six AI engines say about your store every day, identifies where a competing store is winning, fixes the dealership-controlled information AI reads, and repeats. Monitor. Identify. Fix. Repeat. LUMA is the assistant built into Lumon8. It knows your store's report: what AI said, what was fixed, and why. Ask it anything, and if it can't answer, a person picks it up.
What does the free plan include?
The free audit: your share of AI recommendations across all six engines, at home and in your rival's town, verbatim receipts of what each one said, how AI describes you, and the Lumon8 tag with AI-traffic tracking. Paid plans add measurement every Monday or every day, more rival towns, Lumon8's corrections and alerts, and the Monday report. See Pricing.
What is the Lumon8 tag, and is it safe to install?
One script, installed once, that does three jobs: it publishes your structured data (the machine-readable facts AI engines read), tracks visitors who arrive from AI assistants, and records AI-crawler visits. It loads asynchronously so it never blocks your pages, sets no cookies, and collects no visitor names, emails, or IP addresses. The tag light on AI Traffic turns green the first time a real visitor loads a page with it; that heartbeat is the proof, not the paste. Google Tag Manager works fine. Your website provider can add it in minutes — the install guide has a summary written for them, and our Privacy Policy and DPA cover the details.
How it works
Which AI engines do you monitor?
Six: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok, and Google AI. Every plan covers all six — plans differ on how often we check, how many markets we track, and how many rooftops you can manage.
What is the one number, and where does Site Readiness fit?
One unit, everywhere: your share of AI recommendations. Each time an answer names a store counts as one recommendation; out of every 100 of those in your market, your share is how many named you, with the rank among your brand's stores next to it. The bar and the list of who AI named are the same count. There is no score. Site Readiness is a diagnostic inside the dashboard: whether your website gives AI systems the facts they need, and what Lumon8 changes if not. It never appears on the report or the deck; you can have a healthy site and a weak share (nobody is telling AI about you yet) or the reverse, and the share is what the shopper feels.
What are receipts?
Every claim in Lumon8 comes with the evidence. When we say an engine named you — or named a rival instead — you can open the receipt: the engine's exact words, timestamped, tagged with the market we asked about. No summaries you have to take on faith. Rivals we show you are verified real businesses near you, never a name the AI made up.
How do one-click approvals work, and why don't I need to log in?
When Lumon8 finds a fact AI has wrong about you — hours, phone, address, brands — and it can be verified independently, it deploys the correction automatically. Anything that needs your judgment arrives by email with an Approve button. Tap it and the fix ships; no login, no dashboard hunt, so it works from your phone between customers. If you don't get to it, Lumon8 sends a reminder on day 3 by email, day 5 by text if you've opted in, and a last note on day 7 — then leaves you alone.
What are steal alerts, and will they be noisy?
A steal alert means an AI engine used to name you for a question in your market and now names a rival instead. Lumon8 only raises one when the change is confirmed across consecutive checks — a single odd answer is never an alert, because AI answers vary from run to run. When you get one, it's real, and it comes with the receipt.
What is "AI's read on you"?
It's what an AI assistant says when a shopper asks "{your dealership} reviews" — the reputation summary buyers actually hear. Lumon8 shows you that read, in the engine's own words, and Lumon8 turns your real customer reviews into readable content on your site so AI has your best true stories to draw from. We never mark up review ratings as structured data about your own business — Google's guidelines don't allow it, and we won't put your site at risk for a shortcut.
Where do the "shoppers a month ask AI" numbers come from?
From an independent index of AI conversations, which lets us estimate how many shoppers in your area ask AI assistants about dealers like yours each month. Those numbers are always labeled as estimates from that index, shown in the dashboard only, and kept off the report and the deck; what you get every Monday is the live checks: what we actually asked and what the engines actually said.
Why is my Site Readiness "not scored"?
Because we couldn't measure it honestly. Some dealer websites sit behind a bot wall that blocks automated visitors — including AI crawlers and our checker. When that happens we say "not scored" rather than invent a number, and we hand you a ready-to-send vendor ticket asking your website provider to allow legitimate AI crawlers. Unmeasurable is not the same as zero, and we won't pretend otherwise.
Results and honesty
How long until I see results?
You see where you stand the day you run your first audit. Fixes start showing up in AI answers over the following weeks, because the engines re-crawl and re-think on their own schedules — that's why we watch continuously and show you the trend, with receipts, instead of asking you to guess.
Do you guarantee first-place AI rankings?
No, and be skeptical of anyone who does. The AI engines are third-party systems that change constantly, and the same question can get a different answer an hour later. What we promise is honest measurement: what the engines really say about you, the rival taking your recommendations and where, fixes that ship with receipts, and the AI-referred traffic that reaches your site, each visit with its engine and page.
For agencies
I'm an agency — what does white-label mean here?
Your clients see your brand: your name, logo, and colors on the portal, the reports, and the emails — including the one-click approval emails and reminders — so everything is safe to forward. Lumon8 never appears in anything client-facing. You manage every rooftop from one login and invite teammates from the Team page.
What are Conquest Audits?
Prospecting for dealers you don't work with yet. One credit runs a live two-market audit of what AI says about them today. You then send a short personal note with one button — a 90-second demo of their own scan, nothing for them to enter — and the full report lands automatically after they watch it through. Agency sends carry your brand, replies come straight to your inbox, and you see every step: opened, watched, asked a question. Their lead stays yours. Agencies start with 10 free credits, then buy packs at $1 per credit.
Data, privacy, and billing
Who owns the data?
You do. Your business data, reports, and traffic data belong to you, and agencies can share them with clients under their own brand. We never sell data, and the tag data from your website is processed only to produce your reporting — see the DPA.
How does billing work? Can I cancel anytime?
Subscriptions are monthly or annual (annual saves 20%), billed through Stripe — we never see your card number. Cancel anytime from Pricing → Manage billing; you keep access through the end of the period you paid for. No cancellation calls, no retention maze.
